Project Highlights
Improving Communication

Reaching Out to the Dam Safety Community

Membership in ASDSO creates a unified community. ASDSO members have access to thousands of individuals and organizations across the U.S. and in other countries to talk about dam safety issues and network with peers.
Reaching Out Through Grassroots Networks and Other Organizations

ASDSO continues its development of grass-roots communication with the dam safety community by partnering with state organizations and cultivating sub-groups within the four ASDSO Regions. Currently two groups work closely with ASDSO. They are:

1) the New Jersey/Pennsylvania Council for Safe Dams—a committee of the ASDSO Northeast Region

2) The Ohio Dam Safety Organization—a committee of the Water Management Association of Ohio.

ASDSO members have made public awareness presentations recently at conferences of the Association of State Floodplain Managers, the North American Lake Management Society, the US Society on Dams, the FEMA All Hazards Mitigation Conferences, the Canadian Dam Association, the National Watershed Coalition and others.
The Journal of Dam Safety
The quarterly Journal of Dam Safety highlights technical issues of note and summarized news items for those who do not receive the electronic newsletter. Members receive this journal as part of their membership.

The Electronic Newsletter

ASDSO members receive a monthly electronic newsletter that includes the latest dam and levee safety news, training updates, member and partner news, important reminders and mjuch more. These newsletters are archived in the Members Only section of this website.
On-Line Discussion Forums

ASDSO's Facebook site includes photos & updates on student opportunities and ASDSO events.

Development is underway to create the mechanism for on-line discussion forums, listserves and blogs.
Public Awareness

ASDSO tracks media interests in dams and dam safety and maintains a database and clip files of pertinent news stories. The On-Line Bibliography references news reports relevent to dam safety.  Free for use by members is the ASDSO Public Awareness Powerpoint presentation entitled, Dam Safety: A National Concern. (Contact Sarah McCubbin-Cain, smc@damsafety.org or 859-550-2788, ext. 3)

The Website

The ASDSO website continues to expand and educate people around the world. The searchable bibliography and training calendar are valuable pieces of ASDSO’s Information Center. The on-line meetings registration feature allows individuals to register for ASDSO conferences and technical seminars on the web, then receive instant confirmation of their registration via email.
