The College Lake Dam in Lynchburg, Virginia overtopped Friday morning due to heavy rainfall in the area. The emergency action plan was activated, and more than 100 residents were evacuated. As of Friday afternoon, the dam was considered stable. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation was able to access all necessary information to assist with this emergency. The department is working closely with local and state emergency management agencies and the Army Corps of Engineers to monitor the dam and protect the safety of those in the area.

The evacuation order in Lynchburg, Virginia was lifted Saturday. The permitting and repair process will begin on Monday. The city expects the dam and the nearby roadway to be stabilized in the next 6-8 weeks.
