The fourteenth offering of the very popular ASDSO Inspection and Assessment of Dams seminar was held in Sacramento, California last April. Interest in this NRCS sponsored seminar continues to be very strong and exceeded 70 participants. The 3-day seminar included a field trip to the Virginia Ranch Dam and Oroville Dam. A feature of the seminar was a demonstration by Mark Stepanik of PRO-ROV of the latest high-tech inspection equipment, including side-scan sonar, crawler cameras for conduit inspections, and an actual demonstration using an underwater ROV to inspect the submerged intake structure at Virginia Ranch Dam. The field trip to Oroville Dam included an outstanding presentation by Steve Verigin at the Oroville Dam Visitor’s Center on the history of the Oroville Dam and the Spillway Emergency Recovery Project.

“Steve kept the class spellbound for almost 2 hours”, said Paul Schweiger and Dean Durkee, the instructors for the seminar.

The next offering of this seminar is scheduled for March 19-21, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona. In the upcoming months, more information on this seminar will be available through the training center
