FEMA is hosting two webinars related to the High Hazard Potential Dams (HHPD) Grant Program during the month of June. The first is focused on risk prioritization methodology and is useful for state dam safety program representatives, state hazard mitigation officers and others who will be involved in deciding which activities to fund. The second webinar is a Q&A session about the application process.

Referenced in the webinars are the following HHPD resources:

Rehabilitation of High Hazard Potential Dams (HHPD) Grant Program
Risk Prioritization Methodology Webinar

Summary of Webinar and Q&A

Webinar Description: To best allocate federal spending, HHPD Grant Program recipients are required to use a risk-based prioritization method to rank eligible high hazard potential dams and decide which activities to fund. The prioritization method compares projects based on failure modes, potential consequences resulting from a dam incident, and the expected risk-reduction and other benefits of the project. For states who do not have their own risk-based prioritization methods, they make use FEMA’s HHPD Risk Prioritization Methodology.

This webinar will provide an overview of FEMA’s HHPD Risk Prioritization Methodology including the following topics:
• Overall Process (Pre-Application)
• Minimum Criteria
• Risk Prioritization Process
• Screening-Level Risk Prioritization Methodology
• Criteria Definition
• Dam Evaluation
• Project Evaluation
