Classroom Seminar
HEC-HMS

Location:

Austin, TX

Date:

06/27/2017 - 06/29/2017

Description:

HEC-HMS participants will gain a practical knowledge of methods for simulation of runoff from storm rainfall.  The methods covered relate to the processing of historical and hypothetical (design-storm) rainfall data; estimation of losses (infiltration); transformation of rainfall excess to direct runoff with unit hydrographs; routing of flood waves; calibration of model parameters; and modeling of runoff from watersheds.  Experience will be gained in applying the methods with the program Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS).  Where possible, applications will emphasize the Hydrologic Computations for Dam Safety.

Key takeaways for this course include:
1. Methods to simulate runoff from storm rainfall response to rainfall.
2. Estimating hydrologic abstractions
3. Transforming excess rainfall utilizing unit hydrograph theory
4. Running the HMS model on several real world problems
5. Estimating uncertainty in modeling the runoff

HEC-HMS contains up to 20.5 hours of instruction. Forms for the documentation of PDH credits will be provided to all registered attendees.  Note: This course will be evaluated for approval of continuing ed credit for New York-licensed professional engineers.  Watch the ASDSO website for an announcement in this regard.

HEC-HMS registration rates prior to June 13 are $850 for ASDSO members and $950 for non-members. A late fee of $50 will be applied for registrations received after June 13. Registration fees include all course materials and daily refreshment breaks. Cancellations received in writing by Tuesday, June 20 will receive a refund. All refunds are subject to a $75 processing fee. After June 20, registration fees are no longer refundable.

This is a BASIC Level seminar. Participants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or similar fields or related experience.

HEC-HMS will be held at the Commons Learning Center/J.J. Pickle Research Campus, University of Texas at Austin, 10100 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78758
