ASDSO's Dam Safety R&D Database is a searchable repository of cutting-edge dam safety research projects. Cutting edge research advances the state of practice for national priorities and the areas of dam risk research and management. Typically, the projects are new or innovative and involve partnerships with universities, the National Science Foundation, or other research institutions.

Database entries include information such as principal researchers, sponsoring organizations, and funding. The majority of the database projects are from the last 10 years, and there are more than 90 projects. Additionally, users can often expand beyond a single entry and find links to related publications through links to ASDSO's Dam Safety Resource Database.

If you are interested in suggesting an addition to the database or need assistance with a search, please contact Katelyn Riley at [email protected].

This database was developed in collaboration with the FEMA National Dam Safety Program. ASDSO thanks FEMA for its support of this project.

Searching the Database

Use the 'Basic Search' or 'Advanced Search' to begin searching the database. Once you search, you will be taken to a results page. From this page, you can click the title of the research project to open the individual entry.

The database focuses on specific research projects. Users can find publications related to the research projects such as conference papers and journal articles through convenient cross-references with ASDSO's Dam Safety Resource Database. When cross-references are available for an individual research project, a link will be listed in the 'Associated Publications' field. These links will open up in a new tab and have the research database icon at the top of the page.

Using the Basic Search –

  • Fill in one or more boxes (fields) to search.
  • Each field can search one word or phrase at a time.
  • The 'Search All Fields' option searches all information for the reference, including the project reference numbers and the abstract field.
  • Use the ‘Order by Field’ tool at the bottom to organize search results.
  • The 'Research Keywords' field includes the current number of research projects marked with that keyword in parenthesis.

Using the Advanced Search –

  • Use Boolean Search Terms (AND, NOT, OR) to conduct more precise searches.
  • The 'Search All Fields' option searches all information for the reference, including the project reference numbers and the abstract field.
  • Use the ‘Order by Field’ tool at the bottom to organize search results.

NOTE: If your search is returning no results and you think it is an error, try hitting 'Reset Fields' and try your search again.
