The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), in conjunction with the GA Department of Natural Resources, Safe Dams Program, invites you to participate in a one-day Dam Safety Workshop for Owners and Operators. The workshop will be offered on June 27. A second offering will be on July 18. Please indicate in your registration which you wish to attend.

The workshop is designed to provide practical, straightforward information on topics of importance to anyone that owns or operates a dam. The purpose of this one-day workshop is to educate dam owners and operators about the following topics:

• State dam safety laws and regulations
• Extreme storm events and potential dam failure conditions
• Owner responsibilities, liabilities, and security issues
• Dam operations, maintenance, and inspections
• Developing and implementing emergency action plans
• Procedures for retaining a professional engineer.

The workshop will be held at the EPD Training Center, 4244 International Parkway, Suite 116, Atlanta, Georgia 30354 and will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will end by 4:30 p.m. Lunch and refreshment breaks are included in the registration fee. Information will be available throughout the day and you will have the opportunity to meet and network with your state dam safety officials, well-known experts in the field of dam safety, and other dam owners like yourself.

Instructors:

  •  Dallon Thomas (Tom) Woosley, P.E. GA Department of Natural Resources/Safe Dams Program
    Mr. Woosley is currently the Program Manager for Georgia’s Safe Dams Program. Mr. Woosley graduated with a Bachelors of Science, Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 1985. He has spent the past 28 years in the Safe Dams Program, conducting over 1000 inspections of dams, reviewing hundreds of design reports, and responding to numerous emergency responses with dams. He has attended training sessions on hydraulics, hydrology, and dam safety. He has also made numerous presentations related to dam safety issues. Mr. Woosley currently serves as the Chair of the ASDSO Training Committee and has served on the Board of Directors and is the Past- President of the Association.
  • Bobby Sauer, P.E. GA Department of Natural Resources/Safe Dams Program
    Mr. Sauer joined the Georgia Safe Dams Program in 2010 after 9 years in environmental consulting. With the Safe Dams Program, Mr. Sauer performs dam inspections and emergency responses, reviews design plans for high-hazard dams, writes permits and enforcement orders, and reviews Emergency Action Plans. Mr. Sauer graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master’s of Science in Environmental Engineering, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a former President for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ South Metro Atlanta Branch.
