The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), in conjunction with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Dam Safety Program, invites you to participate in a one-day Dam Safety Workshop.

The workshop will be offered on November 5, 2019 at the Pavilion Auditorium, 109 State Street, Montpelier, VT.

The workshop is designed to provide practical, straightforward information on topics of importance to dam owners and those with an interest in dams. The purpose of this one-day workshop is to provide education/information on the following topics:

  • State dam safety laws and new draft dam safety regulation presented by the State Dam Safety Engineer
  • Review of how dams fail and example case studies
  • Overview of dam operations, maintenance, and inspections
  • Importance of Emergency Action Plans and review of developing and implementing EAPs
  • Review of public safety, site security and access control
  • Extreme storm events and potential dam failure conditions
  • Owner responsibilities and liabilities
  • Potential cost and sources of funding for dam repairs
  • Procedures for retaining a professional engineer

This workshop is provided at no cost, but all attendees must be pre-registered in advance. Registration can be completed either online or by downloading the registration form and returning it to ASDSO. 

Check in for the workshop will open at 8 am and the workshop and will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will end by 4:30 p.m. A one hour lunch break on your own will be provided. Information will be available throughout the day and you will have the opportunity to meet and network with your state dam safety officials, well-known experts in the field of dam safety, other dam owners and others with an interest in dams. You will also receive a binder containing workshop materials and electronic access to materials.
