Abstract/Additional Information

On January 5, 1977 the Woonsocket City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the city to engage the services of the Boston consulting firm of Camp, Dresser & McKee to undertake visual inspection of the dams and their outlet structures, to record their findings and make recommendations based upon their findings. The study was to focus on structural stability and safety of the dame and spillways. Camp, Dresser & McKee recommended that steps be taken, at once, to eliminate or control leakage. Recommendations for upgradings included clearing and grubbing; leveling the dam crest to maintain the present three feet level above the spillway, and raising the top of the core wall. Steps necessary to stop seepage should be taken and the spillway abutments connected with an access bridge. Inspect yearly. These and other aspects of the study and recommendations are discussed in the paper.
