We in the dam safety profession collectively know how heartbreaking it is to learn of tragedies caused by recreating around dams or dam failures. Now, for the first time in ASDSO’s history and thanks to FEMA funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are launching a multi-year national awareness campaign. Educating the public about dams is one of the pillars of dam safety and a continued goal for ASDSO. An educated public is both better protected from the dangers posed by dams and can serve as educated advocates for dam safety in their communities.
The seed money graciously offered by FEMA will only kickstart this ambitious campaign. We need your support and will be working over the next year to get monetary backing from our member companies, private and federal grant providers, and the outdoor recreation industry.
About the Campaign
The first round of campaign assets is currently in production, and ASDSO has even secured a ‘celebrity’ spokesperson to help us out. We are excited to introduce… Bigfoot!
From his home deep in the woods, Bigfoot will provide low-head dam safety tips on billboards, television ads, magazines, online, and more! Like Smokey the Bear before him, our re-imagined, friendly Bigfoot is poised to become a beloved spokesperson for all ages, activity levels, and walks of life.
