Dam Owner/Operator On-Site Training

Survey questions developed by Jack Byers and Jay Stateler; responses compiled by The Byers Group, LLC for the ASDSO Training Committee. Questions developed in order to determine an initial baseline of information regarding dam inspections, owner participation and potential added training during the inspection. The questions were distributed to State Dam Safety Officers through ASDSO and provided to a small group of consultants and owners through the Northeast Region Council for Safe Dams. Survey includes state dam safety program responses to the following questions:

1) How often (% time) does the dam owner/operator attend the dam inspection?
2) Are the dam inspections performed by consultants or state staff?
3) For those inspections that are attended by owner/operators would the inspectors be willing to provide a short (30-60 minute) checklist-assisted training (copy attached) on monitoring and potential failure modes?
4) Are there any incentives that could be considered to encourage this training?
