Dam Security in a New Era

CE News and Structural Engineer were merged into Civil + Structural Engineering Magazine.

The American Society of Civil Engineers' 2002 Infrastructure Report card gave a poor grade to the nation's dam infrastructure, suggesting much work is needed. But aside from basic infrastructure needs, what are the owners and operators of the nation's 78,000 dams doing to protect this vital infrastructure from terrorist attacks? And how much can be done, realistically, to secure some of the largest potential targets?
