Deformation and stability of the right arch dam abutment of the Danjiang hydro-power project, China
The paper presents the numerical analysis of deformation and stability, as well as the effectiveness of the reinforcement at the right abutment of the Danjiang hydro-power project. The right abutment of the project is cut by a big fault F1. To evaluate the influence of the fault on deformation and stability of the abutment, the three dimensional FEM is firstly adopted to calculate the displacement and stress field of the abutment, then the limit equilibrium method is also used to calculate the stability factor of safety. The results show that there exists a large deformation zone in the abutment with the outcrop of the fault having the biggest displacement, the abutment may slide alone the intersection of fault F1 and bedding plane after the reservoir is impounded. These calculation results help to determine the way and scope of the reinforcing measure. At last the effectiveness of reinforcement is evaluated by numerical analysis. 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
