Design considerations for surface impoundments

Geomembrane-lined surface impoundments are common fixtures at both landfills and mine processing areas. The use of a geomembrane to line impoundments requires the designer to address key differences between liquid containment and the more publicized containment of leachates that drain from solid wastes or mining ores.
