Abstract/Additional Information

It took nearly 18 years and thousands of hours of studies, planning, analyses, negotiation, partnering, design, and construction to implement the Elkhead Reservoir Enlargement Project, which was completed in 2006. The project is in northwest Colorado, near Craig on Elkhead Creek, a tributary of the Yampa river in the USA and involved doubling the reservoir storage capacity and replacing the spillway and outlet works. Elkhead is one of the first examples in the Rocky Mountain region of water storage constructed specifically for flow augmentation to benefit endangered fish.
