Abstract/Additional Information

States' responses to the following questions:
1. Does your state charge fees to help offset the costs of a state dam inspection program?
2. If so, is the fee in the form an annual permit fee, or do you charge for each inspection?
3. Do you give the owner the option to hire their own engineer to inspect the dam, and if so, do you still collect the annual fee?
4. What level of resistance do owners present at having to pay (implicitly or explicitly) for inspections on their dams? Does this make it more difficult to get the dam repaired?
5. What is your success rate in collecting the fees? Does it take a lot of resources to collect the money and follow up on delinquent owners?
