The emergency plan for the Irabia Dam is yet a further activity which has been carried out to improve the operation of the dam over recent years. The plan was drafted in accordance with the specific technical guidelines prepared by the Ministry of the Environment to this effect. The drafting of the plan has required a thorough review of the dam's maintenance and control systems together with the communication systems between the dam and the Offsite Telecontrol Centre in Pamplona and the installation of sirens to warn the downstream population who would be affected by a possible emergency. This plan is currently being introduced and the present article is a summary of the Plan which has been prepared for distribution within the affected towns and villages.
