CE News and Structural Engineer were merged into Civil + Structural Engineering Magazine.

Residential and commercial construction can radically change the hydrologic characteristics of a site. Newly constructed impervious surfaces- such as rooftops and pavements- reduce the amount of natural porous area available for stormwater infiltration, thereby increasing the potential for increased runoff to adjacent properties and drainage systems. When existing infrastructure cannot accommodate additional inflow, on-site controls are generally the best means for controlling stormwater runoff. This article provides an opportunity for professional development hours with a quiz at the end that can be submitted to the Professional Development Series sponsor.
