Risk Analysis for Dam Safety Evaluation: Hydrologic Risk

Report provides background on the evolution of dam safety analysis, a general framework of quantitative assessment of dam safety, and a sample analysis demonstrating how such an analysis is performed. It proposes the use of quantitative risk analysis as a complement to current design standard analysis practices. The research illustrates how dam safety risk analyses might be improved. The study examines the employment of detailed stochastic descriptions of the rainfall and runoff processes, and performance improvements in warning systems, dams, and other structures.
