Sluice gates a critical, often-ignored component

The materials used in manufacture of Sluice gates which are used in waste water treatment systems are discussed. The cast iron and best hot-dip galvanized carbon steel has been used to manufacture sluice gates with no development in selection of materials being observed till the beginning of twenty first century. Composites with embedded steel reinforcers are one of the most important materials for protecting and extending the lifecycle of sluice gates. It is found that gates manufactured from reinforced composites materials do not experience thermal expansion as do some fiber reinforced plastic/copolymer products.
