State Survey on Low-head Dams

State dam safety program responses to the following questions:

1. Are you aware of any low head dams in your state? Here, low head dams are defined as weir-like masonry or concrete structures, ranging in height from a couple to 15-ft. high - including structures capable of producing similar known dangerous submerged hydraulic jump conditions, such as bridge or culvert apron drop-offs, pipe crossings, spillways, or flow gauging station control weirs.

2. Does your state maintain an inventory of low-head dams? If so, list agency and contact.

3. Does your state have regulations or policy that requires or advises owners to reduce the risk to public waterway users? Requirements may include erecting warning signs, marking exclusion zones, installing barrier booms, fencing, etc. Please identify website or other reference to applicable regulation or policy.

4. Estimated range of number of low-head dams in your state and level of confidence [e.g., 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, etc.%] in making your estimate or guesstimate.
