Articulating Concrete Block (ACB) Design Practice Update
ABSTRACT ONLY - This presentation will provide guidance to the current industry best design practices for ACB systems under all open channel hydraulic flow conditions as described in the NEH Part 628 Dams Chapter 54 ACB Armored Spillways, developed by the NRCS, as well as the ACB specification developed and utilized by the USACE Jacksonville District. ACB design practices have continually evolved since their commercial introduction over 40 years ago. Updates in Factor of Safety (FOS) calculations, full scale flume test procedures and data analysis have continually been realized over the over the last 25 years, including testing and analysis of ACB systems under hydraulic jump conditions on steep slopes undertaken in the past 10 years. The new design guides provide more robust design analysis than the former guides can provide.
