The Dam Safety Toolbox – A New Online Resource for the Dam Safety Industry from ASDSO

ABSTRACT ONLY - The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) is excited to share the new online Dam Safety Toolbox (DamToolbox.org)! This wiki-style website allows users to easily access current, state-of-the-practice guidance and resources on all aspects of dam engineering. The goals of the website are to:1. Advance the industry toward the use of standard practices, 2. Serve as a resource to educate and support dam safety professionals including regulators, consultants, and owners, 3. Serve as an authoritative reference source for regulators when providing comments on technical aspects of designs to consulting engineers,4. Serve as a resource for expert consultants who are submitting designs to regulators who may not have experience with the issue being addressed,5. Aid dam owners in understanding the basics of dam safety and identifying qualified engineers, and 6. Serve as a mechanism for states to share tools and technical information with each other. This presentation will provide an overview of the development, format, and functionality of the Dam Safety Toolbox website. Opportunities to contribute to the website and get involved in the long-term expansion and maintenance of this exciting resource will also be shared.
