Deaths Directly Caused by Hurricane Katrina

This study shows the importance for emergency disaster plans to consider the needs of elders, which have the highest risk of drowning and disease deaths. Furthermore, residents in healthy condition should be encouraged to evacuate for future hurricanes and be warned of the risks due to drowning and disease complications if they stay at home.
