Abstract/Additional Information

This course will include specifications on various pieces of equipment, both on the high and lower end of pricing, including benefits and shortcomings used during underwater inspections and surveys. These will range from ROV, AUV, wheeled and tracked crawlers, to different types of survey lasers and sonars (including deployment methods). We will cover the various types of hydrographic, LiDAR and photogrammetric survey methodologies and equipment, including single and multibeam bathymetric sonars, sidescan, sub-bottom and pipe profiling sonars, as well as magnetometers. Emphasis will be on how resultant datasets can be combined to form a complete multi-layer geo-referenced 3D deliverable for the client from the 10,000 foot level to sub-centimeter level. A large number of equipment, data, and deliverables will be shown, along with approximate costing for equipment, time expected on type of projects, and post processing.

Key Take-aways:
- Different types of equipment and types of inspections/surveys for which it can be used.
- Equipment accuracy specifications vs. actual field accuracies.
- Cost associated from buying or outsourcing services for underwater inspections.
- What to watch out for and what's reasonable during underwater inspections/surveys (i.e. resolution).
- How to better understand the data received and deliverables presented.
