Abstract/Additional Information

ABSTRACT ONLY - Photogrammetry is the science and technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and the environment through the process of recording, measuring, and interpreting photographic images. The first photograph was taken in 1827, the field of photogrammetry has made significant advancements. In 1934, the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) was founded with the mission to ethically utilize active and passive sensors, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems, and other geospatial technologies. Various Industries have embraced the use of photogrammetry and associated sciences to enhance efficiency in data collection, historic documentation, and condition assessment of assets. Collaboration becomes more effective with the integration of advanced technologies. Just as phone calls have evolved into video calls, the traditional 2-dimensional plan sets and reports can be upgraded to interactive 3-dimensional digital twins. Rather than relying on one picture, an entire asset can be viewed in real life detail. These digital twins can be collectively presented to the entire project team or explored at the desired pace of individual team members, regardless of their location. Moreover, digital twins offer multi-faceted views and the ability to tag data to specific locations on the asset, enhancing collaboration and understanding. The control of dimensions within digital twins is key for their usability. For instance, a digital twin of a bridge is more valuable when it accurately represents its geographic location. By linking other data sources to the twin, such as sensors or environmental information, a comprehensive view can be achieved. Dimensions of the asset itself (length, width, height, thickness) are critical for leveraging the digital twin effectively. For example, a room’s digital twin can aid in optimizing space utilization or determining the compatibility of additional assets within its dimensions. Dimensional control plays a key role in the twin’s performance.
