Abstract/Additional Information

ABSTRACT ONLY - Choosing the right modeling program for dam safety analysis is crucial, and in the current landscape, the decision often boils down to HEC-RAS or DSS-Wise. While HEC-RAS boasts a long history with numerous updates over the years, DSS-Wise is newer and predominantly accessible only to public sector employees. Both tools serve distinct purposes within the dam safety community, necessitating a nuanced understanding of their strengths and limitations.
HEC-RAS demands a certain level of expertise to navigate effectively yet DSS-Wise offers a more user-friendly interface, making it accessible to individuals without advanced skills in dam break studies. This poster aims to delve into the comparative advantages and disadvantages of each program, providing insights into when to leverage one over the other. By exploring scenarios where each tool excels, the audience will gain clarity on selecting the most suitable modeling program for their specific needs.
