Learning from the Fontenelle Dam Incident

This article was adapted from the Dam Safety 2011 conference paper, “The Fontenelle Dam Incident: Investigation, Likely Causes, and Lessons (Eventually) Learned” (Baker, 2011). In addition to describing the Fontenelle incident, this article summarizes the design, construction, and performance of the nearby Ririe and Teton dams.
