Mississippi Rehabilitation Grant Efforts
ABSTRACT ONLY - The State of Mississippi received a FEMA HHPD Assessment grant in 2019 and a Rehabilitation Construction grant in 2020. In addition, the Mississippi Legislature created the Mississippi Dam Safety Fund in 2020, a state funded grant program to assist high hazard dam owners in Mississippi with the cost of rehabilitation to ensure compliance with state regulations. To date, the State of Mississippi has allocated $4,000,000.00 in funding through this program to High hazard dam owners to assist in rehabilitation efforts. As part of this presentation, Mississippi Dam Safety staff will describe the following:- the framework for the project selection through the FEMA HHPD program - the framework for how our agency handles the Administration of the FEMA HHPD program and the Mississippi Dam Safety Fund- present case studies for the FEMA HHPD projects addressed - 2019 Ross Barnett Reservoir Dam and Black Creek Cooling Water Lake Dam Assessments and the 2020 Rehabilitation of Lynn Cartlage Lake Dam- present case studies for a select number of the 28 dams addressed through the Mississippi Dam Safety FundThis session will provide information to the participants regarding the implementation of the two programs and provide useful information and resources for regulatory staff that may be tasked with establishing similar programs in their own respective states.
