Presented herein are the results of a combined field and laboratory study of the failure of Sheffield dam. This report is part of the Civil Works Investigation as authorized by the Office, Chief of Engineers, in December 1947 and performed by the Los Angeles District in accordance with instructions outlined in a letter from the Office, Chief of Engineers, subject" "Flow Slide Phenomena," dated 28 January 1948.
