Seismic Hazard and Risk Workshop for Dams

This report presents a summary and conclusions of a workshop that focused on issues related to seismic hazard and risk for hydropower projects. The workshop brought together participants from a number of Dam Safety Interest Group members, their consultants, experts in seismic hazard analysis, geotechnical engineering, and risk analysis. The workshop covered a wide range of topics: seismic hazard analysis, site characterization, seismic performance assessment, dam safety seismic modifications, seismic risk, and management of dams. In addition to these technical topics, issues associated with different regulatory environments were discussed. The purpose of the workshop was to share the experiences and developments related to the seismic evaluation of dams and to identify industry needs and opportunities for future research and development.
