Dam Safety 2023: Workshop - Detangling the Web of Federal Funding Opportunities for State and Local Dam Safety Professionals

When: Thursday, September 21, 2023 • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM PDT

Registration Fee: $200

The heightened focus on aging infrastructure, climate change, green infrastructure, and their impacts on underserved communities has created vast opportunity for federal programs to help state and local entities to begin addressing major ticket items in the world of dam safety.

Multiple federal agencies have received expanded authority or additional funding to support states and dam owners in managing risks and improving dam performance and reliability. Although some of these programs have already begun to distribute funds to drive progress, there has not been a single source for mapping how all the various programs could work together to more efficiently manage dam risk.

This session will outline eligibility for state, tribes, owners and communities, discuss specifics of allowable activities and provide a meaningful cross reference for how programs can work in a complementary fashion. This will cover programs like the National Dam Safety Program High Hazard Potential Dams Grant Program, US Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Infrastructure Financing Program, Reclamation’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding, FEMA’s Safeguarding Tomorrow Revolving Loan Fund and incentives for efficient power generation and transmission through the Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The more we all understand about the opportunities that are out there, the more we can all take advantage of the unprecedented investment in dam safety infrastructure.
