Dr. George Annandale is an independent consultant with over five decades of experience in civil engineering, specializing in water resources. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and five books focused on sedimentation and scour. Dr. Annandale is internationally recognized for his contributions to dam safety and sustainable reservoir development. He was nominated by ICOLD President Michel Lino for an Honorary Award acknowledging his global impact in these fields. Previously named by Water Power & Dam Construction as one of twenty engineers who have made significant international contributions to dam engineering, he is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the United States Society of Dams. Dr. Annandale is the originator of the Erodibility Index Method, widely applied in dam design and safety assessments, and is a recognized authority in reservoir sedimentation management.

Dr. George has over 20 years of experience and specializes in water resources, dam, and spillway engineering with a focus on erodibility, scour remediation, rock mechanics, hydraulics, high-resolution remote sensing monitoring, and reliability methods. He has worked as a consulting engineer and researcher in the United States and abroad and has developed methodologies for evaluation of rock mass erodibility; delivered training to FERC, USACE, USSD and ASDSO on scour; and authored over 25 papers on the subject, including sections for the recently updated FERC Engineering Guidelines for Arch Dams (2018). Dr. George also serves as co-chair for the European Working Group on Overflowing & Overtopping Erosion for ICOLD.
