Abstract/Additional Information

The Oroville Dam spillway emergency began on February 7, 2017, at approximately 10:00 AM, when large pieces of the concrete spillway chute were seen cascading down the spillway. This was the begining of a complex and rapidly escalating crisis that threatened not only the flood control spillway but the Hyatt Power Plant, the emergency spillway, the power distribution infrastructure, the Feather River and the lives and property of tens of thousands of citizens who lived in the flood zone downstream from the Oroville Dam. Had it not been for the abilities, stamina and expertise of several individuals, some who are mentioned in this book and many who are not, as well as a good deal of luck, the outcome of this incident could have had a much different and disastrous outcome.
