Concrete Dams Design and Analysis: Instructor

Concrete Dams Design and Analysis: Instructor

Guy S. Lund, P.E.
Gannett Fleming, Inc.
Chief Civil/Structural Engineer

Mr. Lund specializes in civil/structural engineering of dams and the appurtenant structures associated with dams.  He has over 40 years of experience in dam safety, design, analysis, and inspection.  His specialties include technical analysis, design, and evaluation of concrete dams including gravity, RCC, arch, and buttress type structures.

Mr. Lund began his career with the Bureau of Reclamation, where he worked in the Concrete Dams, Spillway and Outlet Works Section.  Mr. Lund has worked in consulting engineering since the late 1980s, and has been responsible for the design of appurtenant structures for both concrete and embankment dams.  For the past 35 years, Mr. Lund has become a leader in the structural analysis of concrete dams.  He has developed modelling programs for the two-and three-dimensional evaluation of concrete dams and has been the responsible engineer on the comprehensive structural analysis of nearly 100 concrete dams throughout the United States and the world.

Brad Dawson, P.E.
Gannett Fleming, Inc.
Structural/Mechanical Engineer

Mr. Dawson is a senior structural engineer with over 20-years of experience in structural design and analysis.  He is a technical lead for the analysis of hydraulic structures (such as radial gates, spillway piers, and other appurtenant structures associated with dams), including complex static and dynamic structural analysis using finite element analysis.  His experience includes all types of concrete dams, such as gravity, arch, and slab and buttress types.  He has performed advanced dynamic analyses of several large concrete dams for extreme seismic loads.
Mr. Dawson serves as a subject matter expert for several FERC Part 12 efforts and provides mentoring and leadership for younger engineers and staff.

Michael Ledesma, P.E.,
Gannett Fleming, Inc.
Senior Civil/Structural Engineer

Mr. Ledesma is a senior structural engineer with Gannett Fleming focused on concrete hydraulic structures.  He has over 25 years of experience and has worked as an engineer with the consulting sector as well as a dam safety/lead structural engineer for a hydropower producer.

Mr. Ledesma has experience as the responsible engineer for the design and rehabilitation of numerous structures, including outlet works, intakes, RCC dams, training walls, gates, and erosion control structures.  As an analyst, he has evaluated the strength and stability of several concrete dams and foundations using methods ranging from simple hand analyses to three-dimensional finite element nonlinear analyses of gravity and arch dams.  He currently serves as a subject matter expert on several FERC Part 12 efforts, as well as an independent consultant.  Mike enjoys mentoring younger engineers, finding that sharing and collaborating with others also enriches his own knowledge.”
