The Water Resources (WR) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill two Dam Safety Engineer positions Environmental Engineer 3 (annual salary: $75,120.00 - $101,052.00) and Environmental Engineer 5 (annual salary $82,896.00 - $111,552.00). These positions have optional locations in Seattle or Olympia.  The EE2 in-training position provides up to three years to earn the Professional Engineering License.   EE3 and EE5 positions serves as licensed Professional Engineers in the Dam Safety Office (DSO) in the Dam Safety within the Water Resources Program. This position protects public health and safety by ensuring that dams and other impounding structures are properly designed, constructed, operated, and maintained. Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to provide engineering assistance to the Dam Safety Bureau and the Office of the State engineer. The person in this position will perform engineering analyses, field inspections, review of design reports, construction plans and specifications, hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical, and structural analyses, project management, and other technical work. Their work will assist the Dam Safety Bureau to regulate dams in New Mexico to ensure that they are constructed and operated in a manner that is as safe as possible. This position supports the New Mexico Dam Safety Program to regulate dams.  The person in this position inspects dams to verify that they are operated and maintained in a safe manner so that public safety is not compromised.  The person in this position reviews operation and maintenance manuals, emergency action plans, engineering analyses, design and construction documents for modifications to existing dams and construction of new dams, prepares permit documents, performs construction inspections, and ensures compliance with the permit conditions.  Tasks may also include project management, management of data and records, performing risk assessment of dams, performing independent engineering analyses, and assisting the bureau chief and the agency with special projects and policy development.
