Arced Labyrinth Weirs in Reservoirs
Arced labyrinth weirs are frequently utilized as an option for existing spillway retrofits due to their discharge efficiency, which can improve dam safety in the event of extreme flooding. This study supplies arced labyrinth weir hydraulic design empirical data and uses these data to validate a CFD numerical model of the same experimental setup. Good agreement between the empirical and CFD data suggest that CFD can be utilized for arced labyrinth weir hydraulic design. The dimensionless discharge coefficient relationship is presented for the physical model alongside previous studies’ results. Curve fitted coefficients to be used in design are also given. The results of the numerical model along with the grid convergence study and errors relative to the physical models are also discussed.
