Asphalt-concrete core embankment dams

A review of the experience with the use of asphalt-concrete cores in embankment dams is presented. The core construction procedures and the design principles are described. The properties of the core may be designed to satisfy specific engineering requirements for a given situation, for instance to better accommodate anticipated differential dam foundation settlements or distortions due to earthquake effects.
