Abstract/Additional Information

Filters and filtering have been tested extensively in the Lincoln, Nebraska SCS Soil Mechanics Laboratory. Filter-drainage diaphragms offer several advantages over rigid-barrier (concrete or metal) antiseep disphragms: seepage discharge through a controlled outlet, and decreased construction time and cost. Rules for the placement and sizing of the filter-seepage diaphragm and a definition sketch are included.
