Abstract/Additional Information

Christian E. Siegrist Dam is a 130-foot-high Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) Gravity Dam located near Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Construction of the dam was completed in September 1993. This paper summarizes the performance of the dam including (1) thermal performance during and immediately following placement of RCC, (2) movement of contraction joints and potential for cracking in the dam, (3) seepage as reflected by flows in the various drainage systems, (4) pore pressures in the dam and foundation, (5) movement of the dam as reflected by surface monumentation, and (6) in-place concrete properties based on the results of post-construction core testing. Special emphasis is placed on describing instrumentation installed in the dam and foundation and comparing recorded data with assumptions or values used during design of the dam. 9 pp.
