Abstract/Additional Information

Every year thousands of recreationists use reservoir waters and the areas downstream from dams. Recreation activities include camping, hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming and other activities. Every year many recreationists are injured and die as a result of unsafe activities.
Reservoir waters and the river downstream from a dam belong to the citizens of a state. A dam creates a hazard which can cause various problems for the recreationist. The purpose of this paper is to explain the dangers associated with a dam and to suggest measures to improve public safety at dams.
