Abstract/Additional Information

Abstract Only - Lake Milton Dam was constructed around 1910 as a water supply reservoir for the City of Youngstown which is located in northeastern Ohio. It is an earthfill embankment with a concrete spillway section. The omlet works are located in an area of the spillway section and consist of four 60-inch-diameter cast-iron pipes embedded within the concrete section. The maximum embankment height is about 50 feet. The overall length of the embankment, spillway and outlet works is about 2,840 feet. The length of the spillway crest is about 635 feet.
In the early 1970s, the Dam Safety Section of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources inspected the structure. Based on preliminary findings during this inspection, they recommended that a detailed study be made on the structure. This study was subsequently made and portions of the first phase of the remedial work recommended in the study were done in 1975. This work included stabilizing the spillway by adding rock anchors and stabilizing the embankment by adding a downstream berm. CONT.
