Abstract/Additional Information

Lake Roland Dam is a reinforced concrete and stone masonry gravity dam spanning the Jones Falls approximately 0.6 miles north of the City of Baltimore. As originally designed, it was a masonry gravity dam completed in 1861 as part of Baltimore City's first effort to establish a city-wide water supply system. The dam and reservoir continued to serve the City's water supply system until 1915. Lake Roland Dam was one of two sites in the country used for the initial large-scale testing of water purification on a public water system through the addition of liquid chlorine. 10 pp.
