Seepage Cutoff Wall Design and Construction in Mud Mountain Dam
Mud Mountain Dam is a single-purpose flood control project located on the White River about 7 miles southeast of Enumclaw, Washington. The dam construction was initiated in 1939 with the dam embankment completed in 1941, and at that time was the highest embankment dam in the world. The embankment dam is an earth and rockfill structure extending a maximum of 425 feet above the lowest bedrock and has a crest length of 700 feet. The top of the dam is at elevation 1,250 feet above mean sea level. The outlets consist of two tunnels regulated by gates and valves and a concrete lined uncontrolled chute spillway. Drainage area above the dam is 400 square miles. The project is owned and operated by the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
