Abstract/Additional Information Dam engineering is a multi-disciplinary field whose mastery requires knowledge of a full complement of technical skills and their respective design and construction standards. As a result, dam designers often must choose from a number of potentially conflicting and difficult-to-follow guidelines. In 2012, the states of Wyoming and Montana created a sort of “Swiss Army Knife” for dam designers, compiling relevant standards for many disparate elements into a single Flash drive (1.5 GB), accessible from virtually anywhere. The Embankment Dam Reference Toolbox (EDRT) Version 1.0 is a compilation of state and federal resources pertaining to the design of small and intermediate embankment dams. References are categorized under the general categories of Embankment Design; Spillway Design; Outlet Works; Structural Design; Laws, Regulations and Links; and Hazard Classification and Breach Analysis. Each broad category includes key references and supplemental information, much of which is organized into sub-categories such as Foundations and Construction Materials; Geotechnical Analysis; Filters/Drains; Instrumentation; Conduits; Energy Dissipators; Downstream Erosion Protection; Air Vents; and more. This project was funded by FEMA using National Dam Safety Act Assistance to States grant funds and was directed by the Montana DNRC and the Wyoming State Engineer's Office. The manual was developed and created by DOWL HKM.
