Abstract/Additional Information

ABSTRACT ONLY - Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Deep Learning AI are making headlines in today's technology-driven world with the promise to improve the outcomes for society. Do these technologies have a place in our dam safety, hydrology, and public safety domain? If so, how can we leverage this promising technology? First, we describe the Deep Learning AI technology with a focus on its current capabilities and limitations. We then describe how the technology can be integrated into our existing systems and provide additional functionality to proven approaches. Finally, we present specific examples of the use of these technologies to better or more cost effectively solve problems in our domain including: -Methods for hydrologic environmental monitoring -Enhanced warning and knowledge with high water detection systems -Dam safety specific application of AI -Monitoring water resource usage for irrigation management -Deriving information to support road weather safety.
