Owner's Perspective - Establishing a Risk Assessment Program Within the Current Regulatory Framework

Southern California Edison serves more than 180 cities and communities. In 2009 SCE implemented a proactive risk assessment program, which has been essential in funneling limited resources towards the highest value return projects, as measured in terms of risk mitigation. By working closely with state and federal regulators, SCE has been able to reduce public risk by pursuing a proactive dam safety program, despite the fact that FERC Risk Informed Decision Making guidelines have not yet been released.
