HEC-HMS
Location:
Online
Date:
04/14/2025 - 04/17/2025
Description:
Participants will gain a practical knowledge of methods for simulation of runoff from storm rainfall. The methods covered relate to the processing of historical and hypothetical (design-storm) rainfall data; estimation of losses (infiltration); transformation of rainfall excess to direct runoff with unit hydrographs; routing of flood waves; calibration of model parameters; and modeling of runoff from watersheds. Experience will be gained in applying the methods with the program Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS). Where possible, applications will emphasize hydrologic computations for dam safety.
Learning objectives attendees will receive from this course:
- Methods to simulate runoff from storm rainfall.
- Estimating hydrologic abstractions and transforming excess rainfall using unit hydrograph theory.
- Evaluating dam and reservoir performance during flood events.
- Running the HMS model on several real-world problems.
- Estimating uncertainty in modeling runoff.
Registration Rates:
- Member Rate: $995
- Non-Member Rate: $1,095
Cancellation Policy:
- All cancellations are subject to a $75 administrative fee.
- Cancellations must be received by April 4, 2025. Cancellations made after April 4, 2025, will not receive a refund.
PDHs Available:
- 21 PDHs are available for the completion of the course. NY licensed engineers will receive 21 PDHs for the completion of this course.
Attendance Policy:
- Please note that this course is a multi-day technical seminar even though it is being delivered in a virtual format. Seminars require attendees to be present each day and to participate in the interactive course. Failure to attend each day may limit access to future components and completion of the course. Only registered attendees can access the seminar, materials, and recordings. Professional development credits will only be recognized for the registered attendee. Additional people should not be sitting in the course.
Virtual Meeting Requirements:
- For this virtual course, you will need a computer, microphone, webcam, and internet connection. If possible, two screens would be recommended to move between the presentation and the workshops. We will use the ZOOM Meeting platform along with the ASDSO Learning Center and a Virtual lab component for the workshops. If you do not have the ZOOM Meeting application or cannot download it, you can use the web browser version. More details will be sent to attendees after registering.
