Abstract/Additional Information
Lake Burnt Mills Dam is one of a series of water supply reservoirs and dams owned and operated by the City of Norfolk (the City). The City will be constructing several remedial measures in 2006 and 2007 at Lake Burnt Mills Dam to address deficiencies with the spillway and low-level outlet. The major challenge for construction of these remedial measures design is to allow continued operation of the reservoir during remedial construction. Design of these remedial measures has addressed the requirement to maintain the reservoirs and provide for dam safety by use of temporary cofferdams designed by the design consultant and by the contractor, and by use of microtunneling from an abutment to install a new low-level outlet. 8 pp.
